George E. Richardson had a dream to create a summer vacationland in Wayne where families could come together year after year to create enduring memories. He started building Richardson’s Cottages in 1949, and ultimately reached a total of 24 cabins, bound together by the gathering spot of “Richardson’s Beach.” His winter hobby was building the colorful beach chairs and his signature, gray wooden boats for each cabin. He and his wife, Janet, created their summer business as a labor of love for all of the guests that visited Wayne each season.
